The Great Stone Face Book Award is given annually to an author whose book receives the most votes from 4th through 6th graders throughout the state. In April, 2016 N.H. children will vote for their favorite book from a list of 25 recently-published titles that are chosen by the Great Stone Face (GSF) Committee. The purpose of the award is to promote reading enjoyment, to increase awareness of contemporary writing, and to allow children to honor their favorite authors.

“A joy to read aloud…” –SLJ
“…fizzy, exuberant entertainment…” Kirkus
“…fittingly over-the-top (on one page alone, characters boom, squeal, and drawl)”- PW
“Dah-ling! This is just too, too deliciously fun to pass up. Hysterical text made even funnier by the zippy, energetic illustrations.”- Prose and Kahn (my new favorite book BLOG)
“…Recommend this warm and good-hearted novel to fans of Kate Dicamillo’s Because of Winn Dixie.” – SLJ
“…Weeks gets the small moments just right…” –Kirkus
“…realistic and engaging characters….” –Publisher’s Weekly
“I finished it with tears brimming. What a treasure! What a perfect middle grade book! Perfect length, gorgeous cover, not one wasted word, a beautiful father/daughter relationship, a hysterical grandfather, a great boy/girl best friendship, an adorably annoying, pesky younger neighbor, a hoot of a misunderstanding and the longing of a dog.- Prose and Kahn (my new favorite book BLOG)
Melody has lived in Royal, Indiana, for as long as she can remember. It’s been just her and her father, and she’s been okay with that. But then she overhears him calling someone Honey — and suddenly it feels like everyone in Royal has a secret. It’s up to Melody and her best friend, Nick Woo, to piece together the clues and discover why Honey is being hidden. Meanwhile, a dog named Mo is new to Royal. He doesn’t remember much from when he was a puppy . . . but he keeps having dreams about a girl he is bound to meet someday. This girl, he’s sure, will change everything.
You may notice a similarity between the cover of HONEY and the cover of PIE. The books are intended for a similar audience- if you loved PIE, I hope you’ll give HONEY a try too.
